South Bay Kids' Studio Band Project is unique in Northern California. We place students in bands that play contemporary music. All Studio Bands perform on stage at community events both large and small.

We group students by age, ability and musical taste. New students are placed in a “Farm Team” project--a class that runs for 4 to 6 weeks. It usually begins in late October or November. Farm Team teaches students how to perform with other musicians in an ensemble.

After Farm Team, eligible students join one of our existing bands or form a new band.

Band members jam at our studio for 2 hours weekly to learn a set of tunes and put a show together. Each show is typically 20 to 45 minutes--it depends on the venue and time allotted. Our show season for bands runs from May through October.

Studio Bands are open to vocalists, guitarists, bass guitarists, keyboardists, drummers and horn players (for some bands.) There are two ways to join our bands. Your SBSMA music teacher can recommend you, or you can audition. Contact SBK Director Joe Santoro to schedule an audition.

Ages accepted are 9 to 18. Instructor for Studio Bands is Joe Santoro.

There is a separate annual tuition paid quarterly for Studio Band participation.
